Prey 2 may be cancelled, but that could be a good thing

| April 4, 2012

Rumors just mention that Bethesda has killed Prey 2, still this may ultimately be a jovial for Human Head’s promising stratagem.

Bad news for anyone hoping to compete as a dangerous interstellar bounty hound later this year: It looks like Prey 2 has been cancelled.

A Friday public character at Dutch website PS Focus reported that development of the Human Head Studios-developed, Behtesda/ZeniMax-published Prey 2 has ceased and the fearless will be officially cancelled before the week is out. This communication came after Zenimax cancelled Human Head Studios truncheon member Brian Karis’ Game Developers Conference talks attached Prey 2 in February.

Bethesda’s Jim Reilly later tweeted, “Bethesda has nay comment on Prey 2’s rumored cancellation.”

Revealed at E3 finally year, Prey 2 garnered a betokening amount of interest from video valorous press thanks to an impressive demo. While a sequel to the 2006 primeval-person shooter Prey in name, Prey 2 diverged greatly from that dauntless’s Doom-style action and its proto-Portal-pattern puzzles. Instead the game was a single blend of storytelling and frantic acting, with lead character Killian Samuels moving as a bounty hunter on the planet Exodus chasing downward criminals in vast futuristic cities. The common public demo of the game included chases sequences, skill, and choice-based dialogue that recalled the thin skin Blade Runner, the first-person running and jumping plan Mirror’s Edge, and Mass Effect.

Bethesda/Zenimax’s “not at all comment” is discouraging—a publisher declaration “no comment on cancellation” means “yea it’s cancelled” in the sort way that your mom saying “as luck may have it” means “yes.” This may ultimately exist a good thing though. Ties to the largely forgotten Prey could possess limited Prey 2’s potential on account of finding an audience. If it’s cancelled on the other hand salvaged and reborn under a manifold name it could have a more good chance at success.

This isn’t every unheard of scenario either. Square-Enix’s upcoming Sleeping Dogs, developed through . United Front Games, actually began its life in 2009 because the Activision project True Crimes: Hong Kong. Activision cancelled the bit of strategy in February of 2011. Square in make sour bought the publishing rights to the sport in August but did not decide to pervert with money the True Crime brand along by it.

It was a wise precious. The True Crime brand was quite but worthless. True Crimes: New York City, the greatest in number recent of only two games in the order, came out in 2005 and sold uncorrupt 73,000 copies in its chief month, a performance that Activision called “disappointing.”  An understatement to decide the least. Regardless of whether or not Sleeping Dogs is a benevolent game, it wouldn’t have been helped through . a name that players ignored in the at the outset place.

The same is true of Prey. That quarry sold just 280,000 copies according to VGChartz. If Prey 2 is cancelled, that doesn’t indispensably mean that the very interesting looking enterprise Human Head Studios is making won’t subsist released in another form.
