Will you pay for Facebook?

Are you commodious to pay for Facebook? You deserved may. Analyst Foad Fadaghi of Telsyte, some Australian technology research firm, tells tidings.com.au that premium accounts are an option to increase revenues.

As I argued on Wednesday, Facebook now must answer to shareholders. Being a public company is a completely different universe from life as a private gang. Fadaghi also expects Facebook to suppose advertising more invasive, as investors question better performance. Ain’t that of great dignity?

Floating the option to charge since Facebook has to be on the slab. The site needs new revenue streams. Regardless, the selection is ridiculous and a non-starter. The gross concept of the social network itself prevents such an arrangement from ever being effective.

You are the Key to Facebook’s Success

Social networks are built about the hope that the user power of choosing divulge personal information. This personal notice is used to make those connections, and cause the social aspect of the avail. Without this, a profile is matter of no consequence more than a glorified personal web page.

Yes, there are some genial-like services — Match.com for prototype — but these exist for a purpose. You pay Match.com despite the ability of the site to sort you with the love of your life. There is a sense for the charge because it is something you may not be able to answer yourself.

This is why LinkedIn attempted to monetize its own social network. While very much like the more consumer-focused sites, at heart LinkedIn is subdue a service aimed at connecting you by like-minded professionals. Even so, the features over and beyond a free account are aggregate but worthless to me.

Explain that which service Facebook offers the user, other than the sufficiency to connect with friends and/or brands, groups, etc. that weal you? Charging for this is of one blood to paying for your friends. That is not going to flow on.

Paying for Privacy? No thanks

Fadaghi’s comments generated heated debate here in the newsroom. Someone moiety-joked that a premium Facebook portrayal could provide a service where users’ elucidation information isn’t disclosed or surfaced. You pay with respect to privacy. That’s a talking aim for the anti-Facebook crowd — they’re invading our retirement!

If that’s the hook with respect to such a premium account, I’ll cachinnate. Here’s a quick way to make plain that: don’t use Facebook. Despite that which some of us may think, you be possible to survive life without it. Paying to ensure my privacy is a ridiculous question, because it is my information and not Facebook’s. My individual details are what makes the seat click. Without that, Facebook is no degree.

To be fair, I must utter that Fadaghi does state the apparent: “The challenge is companies such Google+ power of determination provide similar services, but are likely not to charge because they are not so much powerful in the social networking while. As long as there is rivalship, social networking sites will remain frank-hearted to consumers”. At least he broad sees the insanity of charging toward a social network somewhat.

Maybe this thesis is a moot point, then. Whether or not it happens notwithstanding that, it needs to be shot the floor by the socially networked masses. These sites stand in want of to understand that this is our advice, and we are under no contract to continue to allow them to emolument from it.

I can live free from social networking, I did for crowd years and can do it anew. If this is the next arrogant thing in the industry, you be possible to count me out.
